Pileta Caves
The pileta caves are about a 20 minute drive away. The caves go a
long way underground and have some of the oldest cave paintings in Europe. The underground chambers and lakes are fantastic.
Setenil de las Bodegas
Setenil is a village that is built into the mountains. The houses
have brick fronts but the mountain forms the back of the houses. We would recommend that you park near the top and
then wander down to the village. A market is held there on Friday morning.
Ronda
Ronda is just a fifteen minute drive away or you van take the train. At the centre of the town
is a spectacular gorge. The views are fantastic. Ronda also boasts one of the oldest bull rings in Spain. There are also many
museums and Moorish buildings. On a practical note there are several supermarkets in the "industrial" area as well as indoor
and outdoor swimming pools, internet cafes, restaurants and shops. There are plenty of underground car parks which are well
signposted. Sunday is also market day here, by the football stadium off Avda Malaga.
Zahara
The lake at Zarhara is wonderful. You should try to find the road down
to the lake by the turning to El Gastor from the Seville Road. After seeing the lake, go on to the village of Zahara and climb
upto the castle. The views are amazing!
Gibraltar
The drive to Gibraltar is well worth it. The natural park, Europa
point, siege tunnels, caves, cable car, Barbary apes, canons.....Also cheap spirits and petrol! Please remember
to take passports and that you are limited to a litre of alcohol each. Some people prefer to park at La Linea and
walk across and then negotiate on the price of a tour with one of the many licensed taxi minibuses.
Coast
The drive to the coast is spectacular and takes just over an
hour. There are many beautiful beaches - but lots of people! Be aware that although the harbour at Puerto Banus is beautiful
- check the prices of the underground car park before you park. We managed to park in one that cost nearly €20 for just
three hours in 2006!
Cities
The cities of Granada, Seville, Cordoba, and Jerez can all be
visited in a day. We cannot do justice to them by describing them here but would recommend that you research this further!
